The Ruby Valley Trek is a newly opened trail nestled between the Manaslu Conservation Area and Langtang National Park, offering trekkers a peaceful and lesser-known route. This trek provides panoramic views of some of Nepal’s most iconic peaks, including the Ganesh Himal, Lamjung Himal (6,800m), Langtang Lirung (7,300m), and Manaslu (8,163m). Along the way, trekkers will also encounter the stunning twin waterfalls, Ganga and Jamuna, which add a magical touch to the already breathtaking landscape. The trek offers a diverse experience, with lush forests home to exotic flora and fauna, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts.
In addition to its natural beauty, Ruby Valley is rich in geological treasures, with deposits of ruby, crystal, and zinc scattered throughout the region. The trek’s quiet and serene atmosphere makes it an ideal choice for those seeking solitude and a more authentic connection with nature. With its unspoiled trails and striking Himalayan vistas, Ruby Valley provides an unforgettable journey for those looking to explore a hidden gem of Nepal.
This trek is perfect for adventurers looking to explore an unspoiled Himalayan region while enjoying a genuine Nepali cultural experience through homestays. Ruby Valley offers tranquility, natural beauty, and the warmth of local hospitality—all in one unforgettable journey.
Your journey to Ruby Valley starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, the gateway to many treks in the region. The drive, which takes 7-9 hours, takes you through the Trisuli Bazaar, Ramche Gaon, and Dhunche, offering glimpses of the beautiful Nepali countryside. You’ll enter Langtang National Park where you register your trekking permits. Though the road may be rocky and narrow at times, the stunning landscapes make it worthwhile. Once in Syabrubesi, a village located at the foot of the Langtang Range and near the Chinese border, you’ll stay overnight in a homestay or local lodge.
Your first trekking day leads you to Gatlang, a traditional Tamang village. The trail begins with a steep ascent to Bahun Dada Pass, offering amazing views of the surrounding hills and mountains. After descending from the pass, you’ll reach Chawatar for lunch, where you’ll enjoy freshly picked local produce. The trek then continues to Gatlang, where the village’s rich Tamang culture and hospitality will make your stay special. Here, you will experience an authentic Nepali homestay, sampling delicious local meals.
After breakfast, the trek continues through a scenic trail leading to Parvati Kund, a sacred alpine freshwater lake revered by locals. The trail passes through dense pine and rhododendron forests as you climb towards Yuri Kharka, where you will stop for lunch. After a hearty meal, you’ll trek to Somdang, passing through Khurphu Bhanjyang and a now-closed mine, which was once rich in zinc, copper, and rubies. The remoteness of Somdang Valley offers a peaceful and silent overnight stay.
This is one of the most adventurous days of the trek. Starting from Somdang, you’ll ascend towards the high-altitude Pangsang La Pass (3,842m), a challenging climb that rewards you with panoramic views of Mount Manaslu and the Ganesh Himal Range. The trail then descends steeply through dense forests of fir and rhododendron until you reach Tipling, a picturesque village surrounded by terraced fields and vibrant cultural traditions.
Today’s trek is short and relaxing as you make your way through forests and across small streams toward Chalish Gaon. This area is home to Gurung, Tamang, and Dalit communities, where you’ll experience their unique culture and hospitality. Nearby Shertung Village offers stunning views of the surrounding valley and fields. You can either explore the local culture or simply enjoy the tranquil atmosphere.
After a morning trek to Borang Village, you’ll descend towards Lishne Khola and meet the local jeep that will take you through winding roads past Ankhu Khola and several small villages to Dhading Besi. The journey offers a final glimpse of the beautiful rural settlements and the serene countryside, making you nostalgic for the trek.
On the final day of your adventure, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu from Dhading Besi. The 4-5 hour drive offers one last chance to enjoy the scenic beauty of Nepal’s countryside. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel. Optionally, you can arrange for a guided city tour of Kathmandu, visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites before concluding your trip.
